The goat program uses the goats to earn up to 20 credits over two semesters. Here is a link to the Green Certificate website which will explain how the program works. LCHS is considered an Urban farm and Mr. Schultz is the director for the class. The goats were introduced to the school in September 2020 in the middle of the pandemic. Classes throughout the school would sign up to visit, cuddle and walk the goats as a way to relieve stress and anxiety. We would love to open this up to classes and students at lunch. Here is a link to the goat care checklist.
GOAT CARE CHECKLIST
Ellis Bird Farm takes care of the goats over the summer and helps raise money for the program by charging people to walk the goats. Community can get involved by joining the FOGG program (Friends Of Goats and Gardens) https://www.facebook.com/LCHS.FOG. By doing this they can walk, cuddle, or feed the goats. Community may also help work to improve the goat yard. We sell any and all dairy products we get from the goats to Rock Ridge Dairy https://www.rockridgedairy.com/. The proceeds from the sales help support the ecovision program and help supplement the new FOOD NIJAH program to help feed hungry students.
